A lot a people have some interesting theories. I am going to put down as many as I can. Some of them are just for amusement, or are they?
I really believe that this is what the island is and i think we will find this out shortly. Perhaps when the lostaways find another hatch somewhere or perhaps another video. This theory answers the question of the purpose of the island. The plane was brought down by the electro-magnetic pull from the island, that is also why the compasses wouldn't work. Therefore the island itself is lost. The incident spoken about by Kandle is hard to figure out but i think that the Others are the original scientists. That is why they know the island so well and don't leave tracks - because they have been there from the beginning. However, i am not 100% convinced by this theory. There is still a long way to go in the show and there are still questions i have. My main worry is why are there so many weapons in the hatch. And also i think that the fact one of the Others had a 20 year old army knife is significant and was outlined in a clear way. One more thing i would like to add is about the monster and whispering. Has it crossed anybody elses mind that perhaps the whispers orginate from distortion from other characters. For example, when Shannon is killed both the tailies and the lostaways hear whispers. Could this have been Sayid and Shannon hearing the tailies shouting after their friend who suddenly went missing? So then Walt projects himself to tell them to be quiet but instead they shout too, causing the tailies to hear whispers aswell? The lost forums. A load of people share this theory(I know I certainly have), or theories like it. I think that maybe the button has nothing to do with "something bad happening," like Desmond said. I think maybe its all just a test to see if people like Locke will keep pushing it, not even knowing what it really does. Remember how on the Orientation Video, Dr. Candle says something about "researching psychology?" Well maybe thats the point of the button. To see how far people will go, relying only on faith, like Locke. Its all just a phychological experiment. The lost forums The reason that they are all on the island is because they are in purgatory (I think thats how its spelt ) so they have to real release all their sins before they can go on to heaven because they are already dead, so the island is some sort of limbo. Now Boone and Shannon have completed there tasks and have moved on (because there dead) Boone's purpose was to help the other Losties get down the hatch, and Shannon's purpose was to show Sayid that she sees Walt so all the plane crash survivors meet up. This was found on the Lost forums. A theory on the sickness: I was thinking about this after watching "What Kate Did". As always, I do not know if this was posted previously, but here are my thoughts on the 'sickness' on the island. I believe that it is some for of hallucination or delusion that haunts the survivors. This could be a new form of hallucination in which multiple people experience it. Think about how many people have 'seen' or 'heard' things on this island that they can not explain or confirm. Here are just a few examples:

An interesting theory concerning the hatch and the monster. The incident mentioned in the Dharma Initiative video Jack and Locke watched the first time was said to be "a huge incident that they dont want to be repeated." On this last episode where it ends with Micheal typing 2 the computer, it also says in the new video tht Mr.Ecko found on the other side of the island "do not use the computer for any other use besides entering the code. If you try to use the computer for any type of communication, it will result in another incident like before" It also says in the regular video that there were 6 hatches on the island. We have already seen 2 of them, the one desmond was in and the one the other survivors found from the back of the plane. We also know from the first season that the monster sounds like a giant machine, and it looks like, from mi view, that a chain was pulling Locke into the hole on part 1 of the exodus. This also goes with the racheting and clanking in the background. From what we know, I have developed a logical theory that could go with what the monster is. Ok, here it is: Each of the hatches or at least some of them have the computers. The computers were originally used for entering the code AND communicating. The first incident was caused by the hatches trying to communicate, and the monster picking up those signals as they were sent. That is why the incident happened. The monster traveled to one of the producers of the signal, hence the hatch, and attacked it. The first movie was made after that incident as a warning. Now that Micheal used the hatch computer for communicating, the signal was sent out again. The monster will pick it up and come to the hatch. In the previews, it shows Mr. Ecko right near the monster. And I mean close. Found on the Lost forums. I have lots more good stuff that I will put on soon, so keep looking!
